Not exactly the heroic cowboy moment fans were hoping for, but it sets a bleak, unrelenting tone that defines the entire episode.
If dead livestock wasn't enough drama, Beth comes home to find Carter getting cozy with Beulah's granddaughter, per Variety. Teen romance on a cattle ranch? Of course it's messy. The moment lands equal parts awkward and explosive — very much on-brand for this universe.
The real wildcard, though, is the mysterious Dwight — a new character Variety describes as seriously unsettling. Throw in trailer explosions and a cast that's mostly drunk and depressed, and Episode 4 proves 'Dutton Ranch' isn't here to play it safe.
